Product Review: Sally Hansen Instant Nail Hardener

So you know how I love my nails and all that right? And obviously companies also know this because I am a sucker for anything that promises pretty hands or pretty nails. Lately, my nails were splitting and peeling pretty regularly and I have no idea why. And it depresses me to have to file my nails down to ensure I can still keep my talons. Which probably explains why I fell for this: The Sally Hansen Instant Nail Hardener which claims to stop nails from breaking- a bold, huge font. And as it goes, here’s my review of the product. Sally Hansen Instant Nail Hardener First off, you will have no idea how to use the product. I mean, there’s nothing on the packaging to tell you. I know, I know, how difficult can it be right? It’s supposed to be put on the nails. But still it would be nice if it was put somewhere I could read it before I actually buy the product. Also, the instructions are starting to disappear? That’s …

Nail Service Review: Myyra, A Taskbob Doorstep Beauty Service

There are a lot of salons out there. You know, your neighbourhood salon, the fancy salon and a salon that’s around the corner and basically where your mum goes. Now, with the many apps, there are many salons in here as well. By in here, I mean, in your house. There are many apps willing for you to click on their service and they will send their ladies along to clean you up good. And this can go many ways but experimenting isn’t always fun. You already know how I am not a big fan of home services. (?) Recently, I was invited to an event where I got a hand massage and because I was greedy, I went for round two and got some polish as well. At the event, the Powai-based startup introduced us to their latest service – Myyra – a beauty on call service. I invited them over for a review and here’s how that went. Space My home – amazing if you must know but I am not going to …

Beauty Haul and Products Review: Faces ‘IT Kit’ in Pop Princess

Faces Canada is an interesting brand. Interesting because I assume they started off making only stuff for faces like eyeshadows, foundation and the like. But now they have nail polish and shower gels and what not. So you end up putting Faces products on your hands and feet, which sounds kind of wrong. Anyway. I was invited to the launch of the ‘Faces IT Kit’ at their store in Infinity Mall, Malad. So I booked a flight and went over. Kidding, but it’s really far, okay? I was pleasantly surprised to see Faces Canada do something with their brand because they have been fairly quiet. You don’t see ads, posters, any traction in media at all. Also, they have a super nail polish collection, so I have been keeping an eye on the brand. To see them finally shrug off the cobwebs and get moving is a good sign. So, what is the ‘IT Kit’? Yeah, it’s not where you get a modem, a mouse and a wifi router but I can imagine why you …

Nail Service Review: Nail Spa Experience, Khar West

I scour high and low for places I should review. And I travel far and wide to review these places. Sometimes, I even take the western line. So I googled places that provided fantastic nail services. And the name Nail Spa Experience came up. Now, I am not saying this isn’t a good name but it’s a little awkward if you name a child ‘Human’. Anyway, the full name of this salon/spa is Nail Spa Experience Style Salon and Spa. Basically, it’s just a lot of adjectives. And I arrived at this place expecting it to be quite lovely, I mean, it was supposed to be all about nails. That’s not what happened. Here’s what did. The Space Despite its very elaborate name and fancy location, Nail Spa Experience is one long room. The reception table is on your left, two tables for nail art and then 3 chairs for manicures and pedicures. The space is quite cramped and most of the times, the clients seem to be furious. The walls are done up in …

3 Halal Nail Polish Brands You Can Stock Up On

Women do lots of things for fun. Unlike what the movies would lead you to believe, we do not spend hours at a pyjama party prettily whacking each other with pillows and laughing senselessly making fun of ex-boyfriends. The second bit may be true. It’s also true that we do like painting our nails and can make quite a ritual of it. So I believe it’s quite a downer to know that Muslim women aren’t allowed to paint their nails. Why? Because a religious ritual requires them to wash up (wudu) before offering prayers. During this ritual, water must touch their nails for it to be considered valid. This means that most Muslim women often give up on getting their talons polished in every imaginable hue.  I have put together a list of brands that offer ‘breathable nail polish’ that allows water through. While I cannot confirm the veracity of the claims of each of these brands, these are the brands you could explore. For non-muslim women as well, breathable nail polish might mean less …

Beauty Haul and Products Review: Spa Ceylon

Sometimes, you have a day where you end up reaching work late, you miss an important deadline and your presentation won’t open up. And sometimes, it’s a Monday. By the end of the week, all of us need a break and some mental and physical TLC. So you head to the spa, or curl up with a book, or cook your favourite meal. Now, if you don’t want to head to the spa, you can bring the spa home. When I did the Spa Ceylon store review, I was given some deliciously aromatic products from the brand. Here’s my review of their products. All Spa Ceylon products come in a translucent green bottle or tub. Ceylon Tea & Spice Body Scrub The product is infused with Green, White and Black teas. It also has sandalwood, coriander, walnut, virgin coconut, olive and honey so now it’s starting to sound more like a salad than a scrub. Feel: The scrub has a watery but buttery feel. While it is recommended to be used with milk, it worked …

4 manicure trends you want on your nails

Let’s consider this for a moment. You use your hands to eat, to hold anything at all, to make uncool ‘v’ signs when taking and picture and to clean your bottom. With them being such multi-taskers, it’s crime to be doing them up in unflattering shades or have chipping nail polish on them. So head to the salon, cut, file, polish and clean them. After that, I give you four nail polish trends that are a rage right now that you can show your manicurist and ask him/her to replicate. The Reverse manicure It’s gorgeous and everyone who’s anyone is flaunting it. A reverse manicure is like a French manicure but done with other way. Which means the area where the nail and cuticle meet is where a contrasting colour is applied and then the entire nail is coated with another colour. You can make triangle at the base, a swish, anything at all. You can even use glitter there. It’s awesome. Have a look. The Ombre manicure Ombre is what a gradient looks like. …
